Arran Dowling-Hussey
Current Position -
In practice as a Barrister since 2003. Work from the Law Library, Dublin and 4-5 Gray's Inn Square, London. His areas of practice often involve work in construction law, commercial law and all areas of Alternative Dispute Resolution. As a Barrister, he specializes in advising clients on contentious disputes, drafting court proceedings and advocacy. he has appeared in a wide range of courts in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and England and Wales and has advised on which jurisdiction proceedings should be brought on when that issue has not been immediately clear.
Education -
Obtained Barrister-at-Law degree from the Honorable Society of King's Inns in 2003.
Hold Diploma in Arbitration (National University of Ireland, Dublin ('UCD') 2003), Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration (Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) course at Keble College 2006), Diploma in Construction Law (University of Dublin (Trinity College) ) 2010) and FCIArb qualification (2006)
Arbitration Work
Broad experience as counsel of contentious arbitration work. Primarily instructed to advise as to whether parties should proceed with an arbitration and then to represent them in the arbitration but also have non-contentious experience. When providing non-contentious advice review or draft dispute clauses.
Has also very significant experience of moving court applications arising from arbitration proceedings- enforcing awards, applying for interim relief from court (rather than the arbitrator) and seeking to set aside Awards.
As Arbitrator he has a background in sitting as a sole member Tribunal or as with an ongoing DIFC-LCIA reference as a member of a three member Tribunal.
As sole-arbitrator, in 2017, he sat in a very protracted c. € 1 million dispute between an insurance company and a policy holder where the insurance company declined to meet a material damage claim as it alleged fraud. He issued a number of interim Awards which were not challenged by the parties.

Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) Board of Trustees in London from 2017-2020, former member of the CIArb Board of Management, in London, from 2013- 2015.
Co-author of three editions of 'Arbitration Law' (Round Hall, Dublin 2008, 2014 & 2018 (published in October, 2018)
Associate Lecturer at School of Law, Robert Gordon University, Dundee, Scotland teaching arbitration on LL.M / MSc course.
