I must say that I had a wonderful time in Sao Paulo. The training was wonderful and I learnt a lot. Lawyers in Anglo-Saxon countries say that the English language is a tool of trade yet so many don't use it effectively. The training in Sao Paulo equipped with the necessary skills to use English legal writing to be more effective communicator.
- Denis Nono, Supervisor legal affairs, Uganda Tax Authority

For sure, everybody enjoyed the training. It was very nice to hear a native speaker, specially one with such high legal drafting techniques
- Wagner Osti Pedro, Embraco, Joinville, Brazil

Excellent course. I recommend the training 'Contract Drafting and Legal Writing'. It gave to me the chance to understand the need of Plain Legal English in contracts as a way to mitigate ambiguity or misinterpretation of a clause. Also the training clarified the context in which Anglo-Saxon Legal System is inserted, since the Brazilian Legal System is in a different one.

Persuasive writing for lawyers

Persuasive writing for lawyers is an advanced course of legal writing. It arms lawyers with an ability which most do not possess: the ability to persuade. The art of persuasion, as opposed to merely listing different facts, is an essential legal skill but few lawyers possess it.
Lawyers often forget that they are also professional writers. They are paid not merely for their knowledge and opinions but also for their professional ability to write texts that win cases and arguments for their clients. Many lawyers do not, or can not, do this, merely listing facts and legal authorities without turning them into winning arguments. This is not persuasive writing. At least 50% of a lawyer’s professional writing will be aimed at persuasion, whether it is judges, tribunals, clients or opponents - but often very little thought goes into the writing of the facts and information which they hope will persuade the reader.
Persuasive writing is an art and a skill which can be learnt. It gives lawyers, who can use it, a big advantage in litigation cases, negotiation situations and in client handling. It helps them to convince judges that their client’s case should prevail or that their negotiation terms are fair and, for clients, that the lawyer's ability is greater than others. When it is used properly, readers rarely notice that they are being persuaded – they just feel that the text make clear common sense.
This 10 lesson course covers all the major techniques of writing persuasively. It is delivered in easy to understand lessons, using examples and home tasks for participants to practice the techniques. The course includes writing for use in litigation arguments, negotiation scenarios and for general persuasion of clients as well as on behalf of clients. Armed with the knowledge from this course you will be able to deal with, and dismiss, your opponents arguments whilst promoting your own suggestions and ideas. You will gain a clear understanding of how to use the facts and legal authorities to their maximum effect and impact – a unique opportunity, not to be wasted, enabling you to score points and damage your opponent without even opening your mouth.
